Personal Alcohol Breathalyser

Sober Check SC3000 & Re-calibration.
The sober Check unit uses a numeric readout that indicates the subjects breath alcohol concentration in increments of 50 ic) 50, 100, 150, 200 etc. The New Zealand drink drive limit for adults is set at 400 micro grams of alcohol per litre of breath. For anyone under 20 years of age the limit is set 150 ml alcohol per litre of breath.

If the user’s breath tests give a calibration approximately every six to twelve months depending on the amount of use the unit has undergone. As a general rule, the unit should be re-calibrated every twelve months regardless.

Because of the nature of breath testing, the unit is exposed to hot breath, moisture and alcohol fumes and over a period of time the sensor inside the unit will become affected by these introduced elements.
There is no way around this as even the police force breathalysers require re-calibration in the same way. As with any sensitive measuring device such as a set of scales they will require bringing into line over a period of time and the re-calibration service re-sets the way the breathalyzer reads and cleans the sensor.

The re calibration process is a bereading of 350+ the unit will sound its alarm indicating that the breath alcohol concentration has either exceeded the legal limit or is very near. In the event that the user has a very high reading of more than 950 the unit will read ‘HOT’ this is because the Sober Check unit is only capable of delivering a result of 3 digits.
